Wicklow artist Paul Flynn working in collaboration with Glencullen artist Conleth Gent have scooped The New Ireland Assurance Award for their sculpture World Waves at the Sculpture in Context exhibition.
The sculpture is almost three meters high and is carved from locally sourced wood.
The New Ireland Assurance Sculpture Award, now in its third year, is awarded to a large outdoor work of distinction in any medium. It is one of the largest prizes for sculpture in Ireland.
Sculpture in Context at The National Botanical Gardens is now open and runs until October 21st. Featuring 161 sculptures, it is one the largest outdoor sculpture exhibitions in Ireland. It showcases the work of Irish and international artists, with works displayed throughout the gardens, including the glasshouses, ponds and indoor gallery.
Admission is Free. Opening times are 9 - 5 weekdays and 10 to 6 weekends and bank holidays.
