About this Workshop

This two day workshop is a wonderful opportunity to work direct from a model through printmaking. David will guide you on anatomy, composition, tone and space through monotype printing and Hanneke will instruct you in drypoint etching combined with monotype. Each student will receive tuition specific to their needs. David & Hanneke are enthusiastic facilitators who teach by instruction and encouragement, helping you to develop your skills and your personal way of seeing and making.

About David

David Begley is currently working in the medium of printmaking and writing his first novel.

David has presented his animations, drawings, paintings and prints at galleries and festivals in Australia, China, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, USA and The UK.

David received an Artlinks Literature Bursary in 2019 and 2017 in support of his novel 'Bone Black', a work in progress.

He was an invited artist at the RHA Annual exhibition, Dublin in 2017.

His solo exhibition 'What we took from the mountain' opens at Boiler Room Gallery, Schull, Cork 19 April - 15 May 2019. 

Recent group exhibitions include Light, Velletri, Italy, 2018, Boyle arts Festival 2018, Cairde Visual, The Model Sligo, 2018, RHA Annual Exhibition 2018 and 2017 [invited artist].

About Hanneke van Ryswyk

Hanneke van Ryswyk is a Welsh Dutch artist living in Blackwater, Wexford with her partner (David Begley) and their son. Hanneke has held six Irish solo exhibitions since moving to Ireland in 2011 and has been selected for exhibitions at the RHA, VISUAL, Carlow, The Model, Sligo, The Lavit Gallery, Cork, Bridget McDonnell Gallery, Melbourne and Somerset House, London and most recently Terra Nostra, curated by Karla Sanchez, Wexford County Council.

Haneke has been awarded residencies at Cill Rialaig, The Tyrone Guthrie Centre, by Coracle at Kultivera, TranĂ¥s, Sweden and a Visual Arts Bursary by Artlinks. Her work can be found in the Office of Public Works collection.

Materials Required

An etching press and the use of etching scribes, A2 boards prepared for monotype, and all print materials: ink, plates, Fabriano paper, newsprint, acid free tissue & rollers will be supplied.
