About this Walk and Sketch Day

"Sketches help us understand what we see."

Get set to sketch your summer holidays!

This one day workshop is suitable for all levels and is geared towards getting artists used to sketching on the hoof, outdoors!

Starting at 10 am with an introductory sketching session at the Schoolhouse for Art we will then meet at Powerscourt to sketch around the beautiful gardens and take in the vista.

A sketch beats a snap on your phone any day! Start a good habit to take note of your surroundings and hone your observational skills.

Participants should wear suitable clothing in case of a change in the weather. Should the weather prove to be unsuitable for out door work we will sketch in our Schoolhouse for Art pop up café!

Come and spend a day with artist Yanny Petters, recording the gorgeous landscape of Powerscourt in your own personal sketchbook - which you can then use as a nature diary throughout the year!

We are excited!

About Yanny

Yanny Petters has been painting exquisitely detailed portraits of wild plants since the 1990s. Her love and interest in botanical art stemmed from her work as a signwriter where plant themes were common in decorative design. As well as working in watercolours and oils Yanny also specialises in ‘painting on glass’, a technique she has been developing since her signwriting years. Her paintings are in a number of important collections including the Dr. Shirley Sherwood Collection at Kew Gardens, London and the Office of Public Works, in Wicklow Mountains National Park and the National Botanic Gardens, Dublin.

Recently Yanny has been exploring Nature Print, which is a form of fine art mono print in which the plant itself is used to print from. The technique was used in the Middle Ages to illustrate Herbals for Medicinal Plant identification.

Yanny teaches watercolour painting and drawing from nature and the purpose of her work is to raise awareness of the wonders of nature and especially the wild plants of Ireland.

She is a member of the Irish Society of Botanical Artists and the Water Colour Society of Ireland.
