Fergus A Ryan’s wistful paintings in landscape and portrait evoke a sense of ‘the presence of absence’, the time-suspended space between left-behindness and anticipation. The artist is a regular participant in the RHA’s annual exhibitions, and has also exhibited in the Royal Ulster Academy and at Greenacres Gallery in Wexford.

He has studied in Italy with noted painter Israel Hershberg, and at the Florence Academy of Art, and with American portrait painter David Kassan in New York, Italy and Dublin. His work has been acquired by the Government of Ireland and Lightkeeper is currently in the State’s collection at Áras an Úachtaráin.

Fergus‘s principal influences have been Andrew Wyeth, Vilhelm Hammershøi, John Ruskin, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, and, more recently, the Spanish realists Antonio López García and Isabel Quintanilla. He was formerly an Aer Lingus pilot on long-haul operations in North America, Africa and the Middle East.
