New additions to the Schoolhouse for Art

We are delighted to announce two new classes at the Schoolhouse for Art this autumn and welcome two new teachers !!
Starting in October we will be running a Photography class with Paddy Maddock. We will also run our first one day Bookbinding workshop on the 8th of October with Caroline Byrne.

Introduction to bookbinding 8th October

This class will introduce students to the craft of bookbinding.

Beginning with simple book structures students will learn about paper, materials and tools needed for creating books. Each student will finish with a selection of small books and a hardbound notebook. Suitable for Beginners.

Exposed Spine Bookbinding – November 12th

This workshop will focus on bookbinding techniques that expose the spine and the varying different stitches employed. Over the course of the day, participants will create an A5 notebook, incorporating the buttonhole stitch. Previous experience in bookbinding would be an advantage for this workshop.

Born in Waterford, Caroline Byrne was raised in Dublin and studied in the College of Marketing and Design and the College of Technology in her early years. She moved to San Francisco for five years and returned to complete a masters in Illustration at the Edinburgh College of Art in 2002. She joined the Black Church Print Studio in 2004. Caroline works primarily in relief print making. Her work is held in private and public collections including The National Irish Visual Arts Library (NIVAL) at NCAD She specializes in relief printing and making artists books.


Paddy Maddock will lead this new, exciting and fun beginner’s course , he is co-author of the bestselling landscape photography book “Exploring County Wicklow”.

Paddy is a passionate photographer with many years of photographic experience, covering diverse subjects from landscapes, studio portraiture and Motor sports. Paddy has led groups of landscape photographers around the Irish countryside in the search of the perfect light.

This course (4days) will Run over 3 week’s in October, Tuesday evenings 7.15 – 9.15, on the 4th., 11th., 18th. and Sunday morning 16th.
