About this Abstract Painting Workshop

‘The Art of Abstraction’ is led by artist & tutor Damien Flood. Flood creates abstract paintings that challenge our preconceived ideas about the world around us. He is known for his deftness with oil paint and his multiple approaches to the medium.

Damien’s two-day workshop will be divided into four exercises, each one introduced by a practical demonstration. These demonstrations will show the participants different techniques and ideas they can incorporate into their paintings.

A core focus of the two days will be experimentation with different painting techniques, grounding the canvas, grey tones, colour mixing and viscosities. Alongside this their will be a focus on composition and incorporating various visual languages through paint.

On the morning of the first day he will briefly discuss supports and materials, explaining how they affect the outcome of the work. Each of the two days will end with a group discussion led by Damien about the work produced.

This course is suitable for artists of all levels & abilities.

Materials list will be forwarded upon registration.
