About this 3-Day Workshop

Most artists can paint, but how to make your paintings really STAND OUT – to give it that PZAZZ factor - and make the most of what you’ve put into it – that’s where FINISHING comes in. It’s the critical, distinct and final stage of any painting, and requires a deep understanding of the key aspects and techniques that make a painting GREAT!.

That’s what we’ll cover in this really interesting workshop and with the insights and demonstrations that John Dinan will share with you, you’ll work on your own (almost finished) paintings to put a whole new level of PZAZZ into them.

Learn the exact methods John uses to finish his own paintings in this exciting, insightful workshop that will change the way you think about your paintings. Issues covered will include placing focal points, how to create maximum interest and impact, the importance of edges, how to use Movement through the picture, how various Opposites work for your painting, and how to create overall Unity in your finished painting.

This workshop is most suitable for painters with some experience, although all levels will find it accessible; paintings in any media are welcome, but demonstrations will be with Oils or Acrylics.

Meet John

John Dinan is a professional artist who has been teaching art for over 20 years, in Ireland, France and Italy. He is an exhibiting artist in many of Ireland’s leading galleries in both the Republic and the north of Ireland. He has exhibited in RHA, Oireachtas and many solo and group exhibitions. He is a member of the Dublin Painting & Sketching Club, and of the Back Lane Painters, and is a founder member of the Portmarnock Art Group.

His landscapes, portraits and still lifes are held internationally in corporate and private collections.

He especially loves painting en plein air, and has run outdoor workshops and been a prize-winner at the international Art in the Open festival in Wexford. He paints in a varied range of styles, but his work is usually recognised through good drawing, strong compositions and bright colours. His workshops always receive great feedback for the extensive tuition, complete sharing of experience and insights, helpful one-to-one advice and the encouraging atmosphere he maintains in his classes. He lives in Cross, in south Mayo, near the village of Cong where he and his wife have had an art gallery for over 12 years.
