A Sense of Place

This workshop will explore landscape painting concepts and techniques through the eyes of you the artist and your personal response to your surroundings.  Participants will have the opportunity to learn new skills and techniques, as well as refine your own practice through discussions and demonstrations that will cover the history and basics of landscape painting.  These will equip you the participant with all the skills to produce an artwork that reflects a true sense of place.

Over the two day workshop participants will do an 'exploring place', working on compositions, colour theory, etc,  and then will complete the painting or a series or related paintings.  This detail will be consolidated closer to the date and depending on the inclement weather conditions of Enniskerry!

About Tom Voyce

Tom Voyce

Tom Voyce

Tom Voyce (born 1989) is an artist from the UK. Trained in Fine Art at Aberystwyth University School of Art in Wales, specialising in drawing and painting.

He completed a Master’s degree shortly afterwards allowing him to refine his practice while working and teaching.

In 2017 Tom participated on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year, where his powerful and distinctive landscapes thrilled the judges.

He went on to win the competition and claim the prize of a £10,000 commission from the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, where he was required to paint the view from the legendary playwright Noel Coward’s home in Jamaica.

Since then, Tom has gone on to produce a whole series of artworks based on his visit to Jamaica, as well as continuing to further his own practice through still life’s, interiors and various other semi abstract landscapes that are fundamental to his work. Tom is presently completing a number of art residencies in New Zealand in search for new subject matter. His journey will also take in visits to cities across Canada and the US as well as the islands of Fiji – befitting of his favourite subject matter; places of transit. Tom will be with us in the Schoolhouse for Art in October. To read more about Tom click here
