ABOUT THIS COURSE

Dave first-love in art is painting the landscape, in particular the endless variations in light and colour that are observed throughout the changing days and seasons. His practice spans both studio painting and Plein-air.

During these ongoing art sessions Dave will guide participants on a one-to-one basis to getting the most from their own practice. He will help with choosing subjects and themes for projects, steering the student towards compositions and arrangements that work on a visual level.

Dave will be on hand to help navigate through the process of constructing artworks with a combination of theory and practical demonstrations ranging from mark making, effective and interesting brushwork, through value structures to colour selection and that most difficult of things: finishing a painting.

This class is not suitable for beginners but would suit anyone that is looking to develop their own ideas and style through the genre of landscape painting hosted by a dedicated landscape painter and experienced tutor. Dave can support students in their choice of either Oil paint or Soft Pastel as a medium. Participants need to bring their own materials and panels or paper.

In Pastel Dave recommends Rembrandt pastels and sennelier or Canson mi-teintes Touch pastel card

In Oil Paint Dave recommends a limited palette of good quality oils in a minimum of Ultramarine, Alizarin Crimson and Cadmium Yellow Light, together with hog bristle brushes, fume-free solvents and linseed oil medium.
