ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

Building on your existing knowledge the workshop will focus on advanced techniques such as solvent pours, glazes, blending as well as covering technical aspects relating to tools, surfaces, colour, values, textures, shapes, and composition.

Over the three days we will work on a series of paintings, working intuitively and letting our work evolve.

The workshop will include information about techniques, as well as demonstrations but more importantly there will be time for dedicated and focused painting and individual support.

What will be covered?

  • Working wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry

  • Using transparent and opaque colours to create depth and atmosphere.

  • Building rich layers of texture, patterns, marks, and colour to form  complex foundations to your paintings.

  • Incorporating pigments and loose powders such as marble dust into your work.

  • Solvent reduction techniques and solvent pours.

  • Incorporating pigment sticks and oil bars and other drawing mediums.

  • Using glazes to harmonise your paintings.

  • Problem-solving compositions by exploring colour, value, contrast, and shapes.

  • Experimenting with embedding materials.

  • Exploring different surfaces and supports

  • Masking, stencilling and transfer techniques including how to make transfer papers

  • Creating a series of paintings that work together as a collection as well as individually.

Do I have the experience?

If you have attended one of Paula’s 1-day or 2-day workshops, then this is the perfect next step for you. If not, then ideally you should have some basic understanding of working with oils and cold wax. If in doubt, then just get in touch.
