MEET ANGELA CUNNINGHAM
Angela Cunningham is a contemporary realist artist working in drawing, oil painting, and sculpture. Her work focuses on the human figure and portraiture, exploring themes of emotional connection, presence, and shared human experience.
Raised in California, Cunningham earned her BFA in Drawing and Painting with a minor in Sculpture from Laguna College of Art and Design. She later continued her studies at the Grand Central Academy of Art in New York City under renowned artist Jacob Collins, graduating in 2011. Her work is rooted in classical techniques, careful observation, and a deep appreciation for the expressive potential of the human form.
For more than twenty years, Cunningham has taught drawing, painting, and sculpture through private instruction and workshops throughout the United States and internationally. She currently works from her studio near Asheville, North Carolina, where she is developing figurative works in drawing, painting, and sculpture.
A member of the National Sculpture Society, the Portrait Society of America, and Preserving A Picturesque America, Cunningham has received numerous awards, including the Art Renewal Center First Place Scholarship Award. She is passionate about helping artists strengthen their technical skills while cultivating a deeper understanding of observation, craftsmanship, and creative expression.
