MEET BRÍGH STRAWBRIDGE

Brígh Strawbridge is an artist based in Co. Wicklow. She works in a wide variety of mediums and is currently focusing on her oil painting and drawing practice. Her work particularly reflects the landscapes and seascapes of her native county inspired by the colours, textures and movements of the natural environment and the effect that it has on us.

She has exhibited both nationally and internationally. In 2017 she had her first solo show in Birr Theatre and Arts Centre, Co. Offaly and has since exhibited with M.A.D.S Milano in Italy and with the ARTBOX PROJECT in Zurich, Switzerland 2020 and in Barcelona in 2021. Strawbridge graduated from IADT (Institute of Art, Design & Technology) in 2012 with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Fine Art (Visual Arts Practice). She was awarded the Belmont Mill Residency shortly after graduating. Before spending four years at IADT she studied Art Foundation at Stillorgan College of Further Education, Co. Dublin. She has exhibited her work at The Drawing Project, Dun Laoghaire and D-Light Studios, Co. Dublin.

From 2013 - 2018 Strawbridge worked with highly regarded art venues and organisations in Belfast and around Northern Ireland including The MAC, (The Metropolitan Arts Centre), The Crescent Arts Centre, Catalyst Arts, Down Arts Centre, Ards Arts, Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich and Young At Art. As a Co-Director at Catalyst Arts; an artist led space that promotes both local and international artists she co-curated and organised exhibitions within the space and other galleries around Northern Ireland. She was commissioned to produce The Fairytale Forest Installation, at The MAC, Belfast in 2015/2016.

She has taught extensively in multiple venues including workshops and classes in Drawing & Sketching, Oil Painting in both Advanced and Beginners classes, Acrylic Painting, Watercolour & Ink Painting and blade based Paper Cutting and Art classes for children. She has worked with Hoodwink Productions on the prop and set design for dance based performances that are specifically created for children in early development.  She has also created art pieces and props for a 'A Place To Wonder' who develop performance based productions for young children dealing with trauma. She currently teaches both adult and children's art classes at The Colour Club in Arklow Co. Wicklow, as well as privately and has recently been working on a mural designed by Rachel Lane as part of the Creative Schools Initiative.
