MEET SUSAN KUZNITSKY
From her early training at the Village Art School under Joe Abbrecia to her formal education at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Susan Kuznitsky built a strong foundation in traditional techniques. Her professional skills were sharply honed through intensive freelance work, mastering the craft of creating live 25-minute portraits.
A deep inspiration from the Impressionists, particularly their use of pastel, led her to an apprenticeship with Master Artist Albert Handell in Woodstock, New York. This period was transformative, profoundly refining her technical command of both pastels and oils and shaping her own distinctive, influential teaching methodology.
Throughout a career marked by personal challenges and profound loss, her art has remained a constant and resilient force. These life experiences have deepened the emotional resonance and empathetic quality of her work, informing both her painting and her teaching. After relocating to the Pacific Northwest in the 1990s, she continued to develop her art while raising a family.
Today, Susan Kuznitsky professionally pursues her passion, teaching in-person and online workshops locally and internationally. Her extraordinary journey, technical mastery, and personal resilience make her art uniquely moving and her instruction deeply insightful. She remains fully committed to her craft, a lifelong pursuit that reflects both life's challenges and its triumphs.
