aBOUT THE CLASS
See past the ordinary to find the magic in every room in your house with this fun and lively weekly class! Kayla will teach you how to plan compositions in dirty dishes, a busy stove, a mess of pillows, and how to capture the light to tell your own stories in these scenes. With loose and lively brushwork, get the most out of your oil paints with intentional mark-making that shows your vision. Learn to enjoy every mark from the first to the last and love your painting!
Course Overview
Warm-up exercises that will have you painting looser for your entire piece.
Analysing the composition of different interiors and choosing your own from a selection
Paint a black and white version of our selected interior.
Then move into a colour version with an underpainting.
In-depth colour mixing before we begin our painting.
Live demo of painting an interior from start to finish.
Ongoing feedback on your own work.
NOTE: Online Students
For you, you lucky people, you’ll get a separate 10-minute video at the end of each day with a recording of me speaking to corrections of your work, which I will do in procreate. A lot of students have found this very helpful, as you can see exactly step-by-step the changes I’d make on the photo of your painting.

Paints
Minimum: three primary colours + white
My palette: Caribbean turquoise, ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson, cadmium red, cadmium orange, cadmium yellow, lemon yellow, and Titanium white (any artist-grade paint is fine)
Brushes & Tools
A flexible palette knife for mixing paint on the palette
A glass, disposable, or similar painting palette; I will be using a grey glass palette
A medium-large-sized flat brush; I will be using a medium-long handle flat (size 5) both from Rosemary & Co synthetic Ivory range
Odourless solvent (Michael Harding Miracle Medium Solvent preferred)
Any suitable surface for oil painting (you can even just use printer paper!)
