ABOUT THE CLASS

Life Drawing is the practice of drawing the human form (nude) in its many shapes and postures, using any drawing media. Work may range from highly detailed, anatomically accurate studies to loose and expressive sketches.

The class is hosted live and untutored in the Schoolhouse for Art life room. Model poses are directed by our Artist in Residence.

A professional model (female/male nude) will pose in a combination of short gesture poses and a longer sustained pose, offering participants the opportunity to both warm up and settle into a more developed drawing or painting.

Life Drawing Session | 10am–2pm

  • 10:00–11:15 – A series of short poses (ideal for warming up and quick studies).

  • 11:15–11:30 – Tea break.

  • 11:30–14:00 – A single long pose, suitable for extended drawing or painting.

This format allows artists to work from the same pose for up to 2.5 hours within one continuous session. The class remains untutored, open to all levels, and rooted in the belief that drawing from life is one of the most important ways to grow as an artist.

Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter.
