aBOUT THE WORKSHOP

Discover how delicate fineline elements can completely transform an abstract painting, adding contrast, rhythm, movement and depth.

In this two day workshop, abstract artist Elisa Capitanio will guide participants through her approach to creating layered contemporary artworks using fineline techniques. Together we’ll explore how to build rich backgrounds using colour, texture and masking methods before moving into the fineline process itself.

Participants will experiment with different tools and applications, from markers and pens to fineline applicators, learning how each creates a unique visual effect and energy within a piece.

This workshop is designed for artists who want to loosen up, add detail and refinement to their work, and develop a stronger visual language through line making.

Suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike. All levels welcome.

• What Will I Learn On This Course

  • Build rich, layered backgrounds – using color, texture, and masking techniques (including yellow Frog Tape) to create a strong foundation for fine details.

  • Master fineline techniques – transitioning from bold acrylic layers to precise, delicate line work that transforms the energy of a piece.

  • Experiment with multiple line-making tools – including markers, Posca pens, and fineline applicators, understanding how each tool creates a unique visual effect.

  • Develop my own visual language through line – learning how rhythm, contrast, and refinement work together in abstract composition.

  • Loosen up while adding precision – striking a balance between expressive painting and controlled, intentional detailing.

• Materials Needed

  Materials to bring:
  • Yellow Frog Tape for masking
  • One or two medium sized canvases, or alternatively good quality acrylic paper
  • 3 to 4 acrylic colours of your choosing
  • Uni Posca marker (or similar), medium size
