aBOUT THE WORKSHOP
Small, Short and Snappy! ONE DAY - Saturday 8th May
In this workshop we will work rapidly at a small scale producing a series of works. Initially we will investigate new ways of manipulating paint and water-soluble media to express our visual language.
The local built environment will serve as reference material for our exploratory work. In this course we will look at ways to initiate fresh impetus for rapid, small works and incorporate pattern and colour and collage to add sophistication and personality to our work.
Working in acrylic on board or paper we'll use recycled materials. The emphasis will be on exploratory and experimental work rather than finished pieces.
Previous drawing experience preferred.
Collage to Distraction - 3 Days Sunday 9th - Tuesday 11th May 2027
In this workshop we will look at ways of moving away from a direct representational painting towards an abstracted image, without ever actually arriving in pure abstraction. We will learn ways of collaging to distract and detract from the obvious; helping us to create paintings with more depth and sophistication.
Working in acrylic on paper or board we'll use corrugated cardboard, takeaway coffee cups, newsprint, bubble wrap and a plethora of other everyday materials that will initiate fresh ideas taking our work off on unsuspected tangents. The emphasis will be on exploratory and experimental work rather than finished pieces.
In this workshop our theme will be mainly based around the vernacular architecture of rural Ireland.
Drawing experience preferred.
