aBOUT THE WORKSHOP

During this workshop we will focus on street scenes and urban settings.

Kasper will demonstrate how to break down a complex cityscape by simplifying shapes, perspectives, and values to create a strong foundation for a successful painting.

The workshop will follow a 3-part demonstration where Kasper will show his technique, and after each stage he will guide and assist students in applying it to their own work.

Each day will begin with a value study of the chosen street scene, which will serve as a ‘roadmap’ for the final painting.

The structure of the workshop is primarily through demonstrations and explanations.

  • - How tonal values influence the mood and depth of your painting

    - The importance of connecting shapes in the painting

    - The value of having a focal point in the painting.

    - How to include cars and pedestrians to add a sense of movement in the painting

    - Suggestions where to paint more details and where to be more loose.

    - Working with wet-into-wet and dry brush techniques to achieve different effects.

    - Techniques to adjusting the final painting by lifting paint in certain areas

All of this and more will be delivered through demonstrations and personalised attention

  • - Good quality watercolour paper. Preferable 100% cotton paper. Kasper paints on Arches cold pressed 10x14 inch.

    - Selection of round synthetic brushes, a larger hake brush

    - Any watercolour paint will do (tubes, not pans). Kasper uses mostly Holbein and W&N Cotman.

    - A watercolour palette

    - A soft pencil and rubber

    - A water container

    - Some rags and tissue

    - A small water spray bottle
