aBOUT THE COURSE

Have you ever wondered about the process of working outdoors but never knew where to start or had the confidence to just ‘go-for-it? Or are you an experienced outdoor painter but would love the company of others and the support of a tutoring artist?

Over four weeks, finalist of Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year, artist Kieran Guckian will guide you through his complete plein air painting process. Each term (of four weeks) will have two different inspiring location as your muse to focus on across two weeks - around Enniskerry.

WEEK 1: You will meet at studio 21 in Enniskerry Village for welcomes and to go through materials. From there you will go to Location 1 to begin your practise.
WEEK 2: You will meet back at Location 1 to continue your practise. (Location 2 will be confirmed)
WEEK 3 & 4: Working at the second location.

Each week includes:

  • Choosing your subject on location

  • Sketching and value studies

  • Underpainting, defining values, and keying

  • Colour strategies for realism

  • Working from broad stages to fine details

  • Individual help from Kieran on your painting challenges

Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter.
